The faith we have in God is based primarily on what is revealed about Him in the Bible. This covers a period of time from about 2,500 years before Christ until about the end of the 1st century AD, that is, history from Abraham, the nomadic Jew, to the Gentiles of the early Church in Rome. For us to understand God’s story and how He relates to His creation, and to us humans in particular, we need insights into the cultures of the various people who recorded these stories. This will come from a variety of sources – preaching from the pulpit at our regular Sunday worship, reading books written by trusted theologians who have studied more material than we will ever have time for, and from House Groups – people who meet together to read and discuss what they have learned.
House Groups are not simply for those who know their way around the Bible; indeed, they are for those who have seen something interesting spoken by a friend or heard in church or read in the newspaper and want to know a little more.
St. Mary’s Church currently runs three house groups from four to fourteen members – these are informal, led by lay people like ourselves, at various times and days through the week, often with coffee/tea and cake. You will be most welcome to join any one of them and find why some members have been enjoying learning, sharing and supporting for more than 20 years!
The different house groups meet:
- alternate Mondays during school term time from 9.30 – 11.30am
- every Wednesday 2.30 – 4.30pm
- every Thursday 7.30 – 9.30pm
